I got my driver's license today! It's not really that exciting because it's only a learner's permit, and I already had one of those, but it was valid in a different province so today I had it switched over so I could drive here. And by "drive", I mean with a licensed adult in the car to teach me. Which isn't very impressive, considering I'm 22. But I really just want to take the road test so I'll have an actual license and can take the car out once in awhile when I want it. Driving just seems like a useful skill to have in the future. My license picture is fantastic too, so I'm happy about that. My Dad also let me drive twice today, once to the supermarket and once on the highway, which freaked me out. I went about 70, and all the cars behind me hated me. Oh well, I have to learn somehow.
In other news, my social life has improved over Christmas. I saw my high school friends for our annual Christmas Eve Eve party, and I saw Jason a few times while he was home. I even went to a club on Wednesday night, but it was a pretty lame experience so I won't go into detail about that.
Christmas itself was really good. I got alot of nice presents and ate alot of good food, and had an easy, relaxing day at home with my family. And I had two days off from work, which was probably the best thing of all. I am on the hunt for a new job that will actually pay me something and doesn't include a boss that constantly makes racial jokes and thinks he's hilarious.
Nothing else to report right now. I am sure a million things happened in the last ten days, but they can't be that important if they haven't come to mind yet. New Year's Eve is in a couple days... NO idea what I'm doing, but I won't be disappointed at all if it involves staying home and sleeping. I spent New Year's Eve last year in Edinburgh, at the Hogmanay street party. We had to pee in the street, with 100 000 people around us because we were all drunk and couldn't push through that many people to get to the porto-potties. So it's fine by me if I hang out at home this year. I'll make some cappucino and read a good book and get a proper night's sleep. Mmmmm.

debt vs. existence
I must have been having some weird dreams last night, because I woke up this morning in a massive panic, thinking "Holy shit how did the universe come to exist why am I here HOW did we all get here how do I really know I exist is it all an illusion where the hell did we come from?!" And then I went back to sleep. But now I keep having panicky little "Where did the universe come from?" moments and they freak me out. I have to stop thinking about it before I make myself insane.
On a less metaphysical but equally scary note, I just checked out my financial situation (bank account and credit card) and I am now sufficiently traumatized. I've only got 41$ left to survive on until the 29th. Fortunately, most of my Christmas shopping is done, and I only need a few small things. Which is good, because if I needed anything else, it wouldn't be happening. I have spent nearly 1000$ on Christmas! It might actually be more than that by the time I am totally done. I am in more debt now than when I came back from Europe. It makes me feel like I am making negative progress.
The only good thing about this is that it motivates me to get a better job than the one I have now. It is absolutely impossible to pay off my credit card in a reasonable amount of time if I am only working retail for 8$ an hour. I need to be doing something more lucrative. As soon as Christmas is out of the way, I am going to hunt down something else.
So, life is not so fantastic right now, as all I do is work all the time (and make very little money to show for it). I am stressed out at home, and still haven't seen anyone in more than a month. Some things to look forward to though: Christmas Eve Eve party on the 23rd, going out with Jason on the 27th, Dan coming to visit me on Jan. 17th for two weeks!
I can't believe I've been home for nearly two months. Time is going SO fast.

the hermit
I always start up these blog things and then write in them maybe 3 or 4 times and then forget about them. This one may or may not suffer the same fate as all the others. We shall see.
Well, I'll start from the top, sort of. This is kind of a silly time in my life to start chronicling things, because I am living at home with my parents at the moment and working a lame retail job that involves me selling overpriced jeans to people who actually have enough money to spend $100+ on their pants. I haven't been out (in the social sense) in the last six weeks that I've been home. I am living like a hermit. That's probably why I have found the time to be writing this.
My life used to be exciting. I spent the last year and a bit in the UK and Europe. I went to school in Scotland for 8 months, worked at a summer camp in England for 4 months over the summer, then did a solo backpacking excursion through most of Western Europe for 2 months. I just got back to Canada about 6 weeks ago, and I am living at home because I missed the beginning of the school year and therefore I cannot finish my degree just yet. I am planning on going back to Ottawa in May though, and picking up the last few credits I need in summer school. But until then, I'll spend the next six months living at home and working crappy jobs to pay off the horrific credit card bill that I racked up in Europe.
I think the main reason that I haven't been out much is because I was just so exhausted from travelling that it feels good to stay home. Oh well. To bed with me now because I have a store to open in the morning. Blah.
